Ok, many expressed an interest in some tips and tricks or general information regarding what I am doing on my new wellness journey. We are going to start with some background and reasons WHY I chose this way of eating and why it may also work for you.
As I mentioned in last night's post, this way of eating didn't naturally occur to me at first. To begin with I started eliminating carbohydrates from my diet (I ate less than 20 a day) and I increased my fat intake (healthy fats) per the advice of my OB doctor. She felt this would alleviate my PCOS. This was the entirety of my "diet plan". I kept searching, and as I wrote last night, the Lord led me in a different direction. I began to research and read and what I learned about was living a WILD lifestyle (no, this does not mean I'm going to begin partying in my 30's, lose my religion, or run away and leave my family). This "wild" way of eating can also be called Paleo. I looked at various research done by world renowned doctors, read books written by experts and read THE book written by THE expert: the Bible.
All of my research, reading, and conversations with others helped me to see that this wild way of eating was simply a step above low carbohydrate/high fat diet. Those are still components in a wild diet. Huge components as a matter of fact! The main function of a wild diet is that it reprograms your body to burn fat instead of the normal sugar. As you know sugar = carbs. Reducing the amount of processed foods, flours, starches, syrups, corn, and soy that we take into our bodies automatically reduces the carbohydrates we take into our bodies. Basically, even as the bible tells us, fresh is where it's at! If your food doesn't go bad or spoil within a few days to a week....you probably shouldn't be eating it! Food that grows from the ground or lives off the land is what our bodies were DESIGNED to eat.
One perk I love about my wild diet is that my focus is placed on quality of food instead of how much I can eat - which means NO CALORIE COUNTING! Ever! You simply eat when you are hungry and you eat what you want (as long as it's a whole, unprocessed or minimally processed food).
I will admit that the hardest part of this new way of eating was that I had to throw some ideas out the window. Ideas that have been placed in our heads by doctors, books, and magazines for most of our lives. Ok.....prepare yourself for this.....Fat is NOT bad for you. That low fat diet you have been struggling with...quit it now. If you have high blood pressure and high cholesterol, this way of eating can be for you as well. I'm not going to go into the data and numbers here but if you are interested in how high fat can be healthy GOOGLE Abel James Fat Burning Man or The Wild Diet by Abel James. Life-changing-read!
So...there are your answers for the what and the why.....look for some tips and tricks to get started in my next blog post! Farewell foodies!
Feel free to message me with questions....remember I'm a newbie too but I'm passionate about this and will try my best to answer!
