Air condition on a sweltering Summer day.
A bed and a pillow to rest your head on after a long day of work.
Morsels of food, whether they are delicious or not, when your stomach twists with hunger.
A house to keep us dry in rain, snow, wind, or any other elements.
Clothes to cover our bodies, whether they be designer or hand me downs.
Family that loves, supports, and cares for you on good or bad days.
Most of us have all of these things. Some have greater possessions than those, some have far less. Many of us also have something else, including myself; forgetfulness. Forgetfulness that results in taking many of these things for granted. I find myself, wrapped up in trivialities of life and forgetting how blessed I am. Sometimes it takes great tragedy, failure, or even miscommunications to halt our activities, pause in the fast lane we find ourselves in daily, and regret what we have taken for granted.
While I am away on vacation, enjoying the sand and sun, others back home are cherishing their loved ones they almost lost in a horrific scene yesterday. They are thanking God that they are even able to care for their families another day. Getting wrapped up in negativity, hostility, or quarreling with others seems so silly...so nonsensical...so petty... after reflecting on all that others are going through.
I pray tonight that God will continue to show me what he's blessed me with. I pray he can help me to enjoy the present, seize the moments that are fleeting, and love a little more. I pray that he will continue to give me a heart of thanksgiving and thankfulness. We aren't promised tomorrow. Live today as though it's the last day anyone will see your actions, hear your words, or feel your love.
